Team 8's First Assembly

If you couldn't make it today, here we are looking super cool in our Mufti clothes and smashing out an awesome performance.  Ka pai to mahi Roopu Waru!

Learning our Letter Sounds

Every Friday we have a special helper who comes in and leads our Alphabet song! (We are still learning what letters 'jump' and what letters slide!).
Thanks for all your help Daimon!

Kaimoana Song

Here is a sneak peak at the song we will be performing in Assembly tomorrow... Come and Join us at 2:15pm if you are around!

A New Green Team Member

On Tuesday a Praying Mantis came to visit Team 8.  We put him carefully in a container and watched him and talked about what he looked like.  Some of us even wrote stories about him!

The Praying Mantis had long legs, big eyes out the front.  He had wings too.

Team 8 decided that the Praying Mantis needed to go in his own environment.  Team 8 talked about where would be a safe place for him to go.  Here we are letting him go.

He liked his new home!

Ordering Numbers

Today we worked together to order our numbers. We were given a number and had to get in a line standing next to our 'buddy'. Our buddy could have been the number BEFORE or the numbers AFTER us.
We had great conversations around numbers.
Can you see us using any of the following Key Competencies in the movie?
  • Thinking.
  • Relating to others.
  • Using language, symbols, and texts.
  • Managing self.
  • Participating and contributing.

Tino pai rawa Ruma Waru! I am so proud of you! :-)

Yipee! Our Self Portraits are Finished!

Guess what... we finished our Self portraits!

Can you guess who is behind the portraits?

We worked so hard and they look amazing.

Well done Team 8!

Shape Hunting

Lately Team 8 have been learning about 2D shapes. On Friday we took the ipads and went for a 'shape hunt' around the school. Here are some of the pictures that WE took...

You might like to ask us at home about the shapes, and see if we can tell you their names and describe their features. How many sides do they have? How many corners? Can you see any around you now?
SHAPES ARE EVERYWHERE!

Dance Party

Hmmmm... a spare 5 minutes before lunch? What else to do but have a
dance party!

1:1 counting

Today Anoji and Chloe took on leadership roles during Maths and showed the rest of us how to count each object. Well done for being so brave and sharing your expertise guys. :-)

And look how good we are getting at writing our numbers!

Stop, Drop and Draw...

Today we trialed a new way to increase our reading comprehension called Stop, Drop and Draw.

First we read until Mrs Turner said STOP. Then it was time to DROP (close) our books, and DRAW  about what we remembered so far.

Jarrett and Tom are very good at drawing and could remember everything that happened in the story.

The BEST part was getting to talk about our pictures with a buddy. Mrs Turner was extremely proud of all the oral language that came out of this task. Maddie and William especially showed how brave they were at sharing their ideas and took turns talking about their pictures.

What great comprehension this group had! I think we'll give it another go next week!
Great work Team 8!

W.A.L.T. Write Number Sentences

In Mathematics Team 8 are learning to write number sentences.  Like a sentence in writing they need to make sense.
Team 8 had to share out 7 large buttons with a partner and then write the number sentence on our whiteboards.
Team 8 were so clever at sharing and writing the numbers, we also helped each other when one of us found it difficult.
Maddie has two.  How many will Anastasia get to make 7?

Ella was an amazing helper.

Great sharing Ryan and Lachie

A perfect number sentence 2+5=7

Jarrett and William were great partners.

Wow Tom, you wrote lots of number sentences.

Balloon Fun with Team 8 and 10!

Last week Mrs Grant and Mrs Newman blew up some balloons for us to have some fun with.
We practiced our catching and throwing with a partner.
They challenged us to hit them without our hands too!
It was great to work together to keep our balloons up with another person.

Here are the photos to show you our skills.

Retell Ribbons

Last week Team 8 made 'Retell Ribbons'.  We made them to help us talk about the stories and books we are reading.

On Friday we paired up with a friend and had a go at retelling the story Mrs Turner had read to us. For our first time doing this, Mrs Turner thinks we did pretty well!
Two of us were even brave enough to retell the story in front of the WHOLE class! Future 'public-speaking-superstars' in the making!
We learned that we could talk about the setting, characters, problems and solutions (happy endings).
Why don't you see if we can retell a story you read to us at home!

W.A.L.T: Draw our faces.

Self Portraits

Team 8 have been looking at the features and shapes of our faces.  We have been looking at mirrors to see where and what shape our features of our face are.
We discovered that some of our faces are more round than others.  Our eyes are an oval shape.
These are a few photos of us looking at the mirrors.  Then there are a few photos of the beginning of our Self Portraits.
We are still working on our masterpieces!

Talking about our Learning

Today Team 8 were practicing how to confidently and clearly share our learning.
Mrs Turner showed us how to take a movie and we were left to 'give it a go' with a buddy.

Here are some videos of us (hopefully if Mrs Turner actually worked out how to upload them!) talking about The Life Cycle of a Frog.
