On Thursday, Team 8 had a go at descriptive writing.
We learned that we had to build a picture in our readers mind by using lots of describing words (adjectives.

The Dinosaur Tooth

We are so lucky to have Mrs Clyde in our class.  She often brings in exciting objects for us to look at.
Last week she brought in a Dinosaur tooth...interesting!!!!

We had a chat about what sort of dinosaur the tooth might of belonged to. Where might it have lived, what might it have eaten?

Being Authors.

On Tuesday we had heaps of fun using Lynley Dodd's Hairy Maclary as a base to create our own Lynley Dodd stories.

Team 8 made a giant brainstorm to help gather our ideas.

Here we are writing these stories.

Team 8 are busy illustrating and putting these stories and they will be displayed when Mrs Grant finishes being the editor and publisher of our stories.

Being Authors

Today, as part of literacy week, Team 8 pretended they were Lynley Dodd, author of Hairy Maclary. We split into 4 teams and worked collaboratively to make up a BRAND NEW, NEVER BEEN HEARD BEFORE story, about the adventures of Hairy Maclary. 

It was awesome to watch how the teams worked so well together. Each and every person had a say about what they wanted to happen the story.

Word spread very quickly about how awesome we were....so along came.... Hairy Maclary! (Just joking - It was actually the wonderful Mrs Steel!) She was so impressed with our imaginations (not to mention our sounding of tricky words, using full stops and tidy writing) that she gave all of our stories the 'special seal of approval' with her DEPUTY PRINCIPAL sticker. 

Not everyone is lucky enough to get one of those bad boys... but WE did! 

If you're lucky enough to know someone in Team 8, you might get a chance to read the finished story in person, sometime soon. If not, here are pictures of the originals.

Super Similes

Last week some of Team 8 were learning to describe things using Smilies. - A simile is a figure of speech that compares one thing with another thing of a different kind. 

SOME of us were working with with the teacher, and SOME of us had their listening (eavesdropping) ears switched on, and decided to create smilies all on their own without any of my help!!!

I was super impressed with these writers and I promised them fame right here on the blog.

Just in case you were wondering where Mrs Grant was this week, Team 8 have written some fabulous stories to enlighten you.

We tried really hard to sound out all our own letters and use our imagination as to where she might be.

Measurment

In Maths we have just started learning about length. 

Today, we compared the size of our 'worms'. We learned lots of new 'measurement language'. 

We even wrote some sentences about our 'worms'.

"Ryan's worm is shorter than Jarretts."

"Tom's is longer than Lachies."

"My worm is littler than Sayuni's. My worm is longer than Mason's."

Team 8 are becoming such super Mathematicians. Keep up the hard work guys! x

Collaborative Writing

Today we ditched our writing books and decided to do our writing in teams. This was a first for many of us, and we did lots of learning around sharing, taking turns, staying focused and being brave.

First we were given a 'sea creature' to brainstorm. We had to write down all the describing words (adjectives) we could think of to describe our creature. Look at us writing all by ourselves!

       

We then shared our thoughts with the rest of the class to see if they could help us add more ideas to our brainstorms.

After that Mrs Turner showed us a little 'game' or 'riddle' called WHO AM I? 

She had written some clues for us and we had to guess what was under the flap. We were pretty clever at guessing hers, so she told us to write our own clues. Can you see us all taking part?

  

We did such an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G job with this writing that we then had some VERY special visitors come and test out our 'riddles'. Look at Mrs Driver AND Mrs Steel trying to solve the riddles that we wrote. Do you think they look impressed?

Annnnnd... Do you know the coolest thing? Later in the day (while Mrs Turner was taking groups for Reading), Ryan and Anoji felt inspired enough to write their very own Who am I description. WAY TO GO GUYS - you were putting your new skills into practice straight away!

Team 8, you are such super stars, and once again I am super proud of you! We will definitely be trying collaborative writing again soon.
